TeamMate adds Call Manager for Microsoft Teams

By Eric Hernaez ·

Call Manager for Microsoft Teams: a setup wizard and one dashboard for every customer's Teams Phone

TeamMate service providers can now offer Call Manager for Microsoft Teams, a simple portal for setting up and running Teams Phone. It is available today, switched on per customer in the TeamMate partner portal, and it carries your brand.

Call Manager closes the gap between delivering numbers and having a working phone system. A setup wizard gets a customer from numbers to a live main number, auto attendant and users in minutes. After that, a PBX-style control panel handles the day-to-day changes.

The gap after the numbers arrive

Getting numbers into a customer's Teams tenant is the easy part. With Operator Connect Express or SIP Trunk Connector, it is largely automated.

What comes next is harder. Someone still has to build the auto attendant, set business hours and holidays, assign users and numbers, create call queues and configure emergency calling. In Microsoft's tools, that work is spread across the Teams admin center and PowerShell, and it needs an admin who knows where everything lives.

For a small business with no IT team, that is where Teams Phone projects stall. For a service provider, it is where support hours go: every change becomes a ticket, and every ticket needs someone with Teams admin rights in the customer's tenant.

What Call Manager does

Call Manager turns the Teams Phone settings into a short wizard and a control panel that feels like the phone systems your team already supports.

  • Setup wizard. Assign the main number, set office hours and holidays, build the auto attendant, add users and groups, and set emergency calling in a few guided steps.
  • A control panel that makes sense. Adding a user, moving a number or editing a greeting takes seconds, with no IT ticket.
  • Call reporting. Search and review call activity, with diagnostics for the calls that need a closer look.
  • Weekly health report. A summary of the phone system's status, with anything that needs attention highlighted.
  • Every number in one view. Operator Connect, Direct Routing and Microsoft Calling Plan numbers are managed together.

Once numbers are delivered, a simple organization can be up and running in about six minutes.

Why it matters to service providers

Phone-only access. The customer's admin grants consent with phone-only scope. Your support team can open any customer's setup and make changes without their Microsoft credentials or full Teams admin rights.

One dashboard for every customer. Support all your Teams Phone customers from one place, with skills your team already has from traditional phone systems.

A managed service on top of the numbers. Numbers and calling minutes are a price-driven sale. Setup, changes and support are a service customers will pay for monthly. Call Manager makes that service practical to deliver at small-business prices.

Your brand. The portal is private-labeled, like the rest of the TeamMate Partner Platform, so your customers see your service, not ours.

How to turn it on

Call Manager is a new service in the TeamMate partner portal.

  1. Switch it on. Enable Call Manager for the customer's enterprise in the partner portal.
  2. Customer accepts. The customer's admin gets an email invitation, signs in with Microsoft and grants phone-only consent.
  3. Run the wizard. The admin, or your team on their behalf, works through the setup. The dashboard takes over from there, and more admins can be added in the portal at any time.
Calling option How Call Manager fits
Operator Connect Numbers land in the tenant, then Call Manager completes the company-wide setup
Direct Routing Users and numbers are managed alongside everything else
Microsoft Calling Plans Existing Microsoft numbers stay in the same view

Users still need Teams Phone licenses as usual. Call Manager manages Teams Phone; it doesn't replace it.
